Overseas Eavesdropping

According to an article on CNN.COM today, Congress is investigating allegations that the National Security Agency has been monitoring calls across borders, including that of military officials. Under the Bush Administration, this action is apparently legal and endorsed, though it is questionable what the other countries might feel about this. I, for one, don't quite appreciate the fact that the government could be spying on me from halfway across the world. The apparent intention of these actions on the part of National Security is to pick up terrorist chatter. According to the article, however, journalists and aid workers were among the targets for eavesdropping. David Murfee Faulk, a former U.S. Navy Arab linguist, admitted that him and his colleagues would listen in on personal conversations of their targets with their spouses for entertainment, rather than for the sake of our country's safety. A little corrupt? Check out the article for more details, or for another opinion check out the NY Times Opinionater's article.
