Womens Volleyball Senior Night

Wednesday October 22nd marked the Senior Night for the New Paltz Women’s volleyball team. Senior libero, Nicole Mercandante along with team captain Sam Prudente were both honored in the celebration, which was capped off by a 3 to 1 win defeating Eastern Connecticut. Brittany Coyle, a junior middle hitter, said, "It was an emotional night honoring the seasons of two amazing teammates, but I am proud of how they performed once they stepped onto the court." In front of their home crowd the Hawks won the first two games, 25-8 and 25-17, before losing the third by a score of 22-25. However the team was able to bounce back defeating the Eastern Connecticut Warriors in the fourth game 25-13 clinching the match. The team is currently 22-6, 7-1 in Sunyacs, and are well on their way to a playoff bid. “It is great so far, but I am really looking foward to the moments that are still to come. There is still a lot more amazing things this team can accomplish.” stated Mercandante. In the beginning of the season the team set a goal, to get an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament by winning Sunyacs. So far the team has done everything in their power to make their goal a reality and are on the fast track to doing so. Prudente describes, “It feels amzing that we are so close to achieving our goal. I couldn't have asked for a better senioe year and I completely confident that we are going to go further than we ever have before.”
