This election has proven to be one of the most important in our country's history; not only has a black man and a woman stepped up to the plate, but our economy is only worsening, and now republicans are favoring Obama. In an article that I read while perusing AOL is about Colin Powell, Bush's first secretary of state, has decided to endorse Obama. Powell believes that either candidate is qualified, yet Obama is more suited to handle the shape of the current economy and the can help improve its status in the world today. Powell also stated, "I think we need a transformational figure. I think we need a president who is a generational change and that's why I'm supporting Barack Obama, not out of any lack of respect or admiration for Sen. John McCain." Some people are questioning his motives; does the fact that they are both black have anything to do with it? Powell said that this was not the deciding factor and that if it was then he would've done it a long time ago. Powell also showed disappointment in McCain and Palin's negatively toned campaign. They keep stressing the idea of Obama being a "washed-out terrorist." Powell also raised a question regarding McCain's judgment about his choice for Vice President.
Another very interesting site that I found is called Republicans for Obama. These quotes have been taken from their site:
"We need a leader who can lay the foundations of another American Century—someone who can get past our partisan and ideological divisions, as we strengthen our standing in the world and tackle the challenges we face at home."
