Another Children's Novel Becomes Movie

City of Ember releases in theaters today. It is a family action film directed by Gil Kenan, who also directed the computer animated film Monster House (2006). The screenplay is written by Tim Burton, but City of Ember was originally a book written by Jeanne DuPrau. The cast includes Bill Murray, Toby Jones, Saoirse Ronan, Tim Robbins, and Martin Landau. Lina (Ronan) and Doon (Harry Treadaway) are two twelve year olds that are attempting to solve an ancient mystery to prevent their city from falling into darkness. This could be the next Harry Potter phenomenon with three other books after City of Ember. This film may not get to the same height as Harry Potter, but with a fresh faced cast mixed with old time favorites, it is bound to have a positive feedback.
