Censorship on a t-shirt

Randy Randall, the guitarist of the band No Age (on the Sub Pop label) wore an Obama t-shirt during the taping of Late Late Night With Craig Ferguson that will be broadcast on October 27, a week before the presidential election. But after the rehearsals, the officials from CBS told Randall that he could not wear the shirt. Randall threatened to walk off the set and not do the show, but eventually he turned the shirt inside out and wore a "Free healthcare" shirt instead because of the disputes that came with it.

According to this article and this one, CBS told No Age that allowing Randall to wear the shirt was a violation of the Fairness Doctrine. But apparently, the Fairness Doctrine was repealed in 1987, which means there is no such thing as the fairness rule.
