Everyone is obviously aware that Paul Newman, the very well known and very respected actor just recently died. Well when I heard the news, I immediately thought of Newman's Salad Dressings. But then I thought to myself...hmm i wonder if thats the same guy? Turns out...it is. How did i find this out? Well I actually found an article about him on the NYtimes.com website. In 1993, his daughter Nell Newman convinced her father to help support her in starting an organic food line, but he was skeptical at first. So she worked very hard to come up with food that would be satisfying and worthy of her father. In 2001 the division of the company broke off and eventually became its own company. Now the brand is called Newman's Own Organics and according to the Hartman Group , it is the third most recognizable organic brand.
On the Newmans Own Organics website...
organic is defined as - Organic agriculture is a holistic system with the primary goal of optimizing the health and productivity of interdependent communities of soil life, plants, animals, and people. Management practices are carefully selected with an intent to restore and then maintain ecological harmony on the farm, its surrounding environment and ultimately the whole planetary ecosystem.
All of the food used in Newmans Own Organics is from farms that have not used pesticides or harmful chemicals in more than 3 years. I'm assuming the three year span allows for all chemicals and harmful things in the soil to disappear.
Here is the article.
