Palin...a Mystery.
In a recent copy of Newsweek, dated Aug 29 2008, an article about Gov. Sarah Plain caught my eye. While, as a female, I would never out of hand dismiss the possibility of a woman in political office, I have to admit I have been very skeptical of Presidential hopeful Senator McCain's choice of running mate. In a presidential race that not only got off to an incredibly exuberant start from the beginning, but also has been chalk full of head spinning day to day discoveries, the latest, and from out of left field, announcement of Palin being chosen as the VP hopeful seemed to be the newest in a long line of antics. So...so what. Of course in the shallow media coverage that followed the announcement at the RNC, the focus was on the fact the Palin is practically a nobody and that her 17 year old daughter was pregnant (God forbid!). Mrs. Palin's bio in Newsweek offers a surprising glimpse, though somewhat bias, of her nobody history. In Newsweek, she is presented as the soccer-mom, or hockey mom as they name her, on Creatin. She seems to be capable of raising five healthy, obviously robust..., children as well as manage a state. She does everything from making her children's lunches and dinners to whistle blowing on other politicians to allegedly finding the time to threaten less than savory family members. I'm not judging Gov Palin...I think the presentation of who she is, is laughably confusing. We don't know what the hell to make of her. Voters love her because she is a female doing something that no other female has ever done before (already she has made women's history), voters hate her because she is doing what females shouldn't be doing...vieing for one of the top political offices in the country. Voters admire her because she is willing to sacrifice in order to both raise a family and work (not a whole lot new there), and voters detest her because she is willing to sacrifice in order to raise a family and work. Of all the candidates and their politics, all judging aside of Gov Palin's personal character, I think she is the most interesting dark horse a presidential election has seen in a long time. Think about the possibilities... this woman...this mystery that we can't seem to put into a neat little category could some day be the President.

I support women in all endeavors of equality, but Palin is not the woman who I want to take the role as the first Vice President of The US. She does not believe in human involvement in global warming, she nearly supported the censorship of literature in a public library, she does not support female ideals such as sex and birth control education, she is pro-life (taking away women's power over their own bodies), and she allows her religious beliefs to influence her policies too much in a government that is built on the seperation of church and state. All easily summed up in the fact that she is a conservative I guess.
Also, the attention to her daughter's pregnancy is not (for everyone at least) because people are outraged at teen pregnancy. This is no new scandal. It is simply because it contradicts her idea of "abstinance only."
I apologize because this comment is very repetitive of my last blog which bashed on palin quite a bit.
