Good Things Come To Those Who Farm

Check out this heartwarming story about a urban farmer, Will Allen, who received a 500,00 dollar genius grant for his "Growing Power" organization, which includes six greenhouses, eight hoophouses for greens, herbs, and vegetables, goats, ducks, turkeys, a chicken coop, and beehives, as well as an advanced composting operation. Allen, 36 full time employees, and 2,000 volunteers, raise about 500,000 dollars worth of fresh, affordable produce, meat, and fish in Milwaukee's inner city. With the grant, Allen hopes to increase his organization, as well as outfit the entire place with renewable energy.
"I'd like to see Growing Power transform itself into a five-story vertical building being totally off the grid with renewable energy, where people can come and learn, so they can go back to their communities around the world and grow healthy food," said Allen. His food, free of chemicals, is a healthy substitute in a city where the majority of food available is processed.
