Hunting in New Paltz?


About 90 miles north of New York is the Mohonk Preserve which is located in the Shawangunk Mountains of New Paltz. "Established in 1963, this Preserve was the first land trust established to protect the Shawangunk Ridge. It is also one of the oldest land conservation organizations in the Hudson Valley region."

This recreation area is well - known for outdoor activities such as hunting, climbing, hiking, mountain biking,horseback riding and cross country skiing. With a membership cost ranging from $5.00 to $50.00 you are able to explore over 6,500 acres of beautiful streams, cliffs and forests. For non-members it costs $9.00 for hikers and bikers, $15.00 for climbers and children 12 years old or younger are free with adult.


In November and December deer hunting is allowed in the Preserve lands. Every fall with a simple application and guidelines you can have the opportunity to participate in this intriguing sport. This natural preserve has become the "largest member and visitor-supported preserve in the New York State." Even if you do not consider yourself as an outdoor person you should still check the website and visit.
