Queen gives a charity concert in Ukraine to help raise money and AIDS awareness. Queen’s lead vocalist Freddie Mercury died from an AIDS-related illness back in 1991. The concert was strategically planned to be in Kharkiv where there is a large student population. Volunteers passed out pamphlets about AIDS and also handed out condoms. This was to raise awareness to those who are not educated about HIV. Raising awareness is a key component towards stopping this epidemic. The epidemic in Ukraine is estimated to be about one percent of the population that are HIV positive. The money that was raised from the concert is being donated to a city orphanage with HIV positive children. This charity concert is just the beginning for Queen. Queen’s new album named “Cosmo’s Rock” is set for its release date October 28, 2008. Then Queen is beginning a tour starting in Russia and then heading towards Britain, France, and Germany.
