19 year old former Ellenville resident, Tiffany Weddle, was killed Sunday night after crossing Route 208 at around 9pm. The car was an unmarked police vehicle driven by part-time officer John Bennet. Weddle was crossing the rode from her Montgomery apartment to get a snack from the Hess station across the street when she was struck by the police car.
The driver was headed towards Maybrook on a call for a fight and is now at Arden Hill campus of Orange Regional Medical Center. Officer Bennet has been with the department for over 20 years and is very distraught by the situation.
Tiffany Weddle was a 2007 Ellenville High School graduate and former cheerleader. She died at St. Luke's Hospital. Investigations are now underway to find out if the officers lights and sirens were on at the time of the incident.
The article explained a brief synopsis of the story but I wonder how this one is going to turn out. Is it going to be the police officers fault or the girls fault. Route 208 is a relatively busy road to be crossing during rain at night. We will have to wait and see how this one plays out.
