When in June 2007 Sir Sebastian Coe, Chairman of the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games, introduced the new logo for the event we all thought that nothing more surprising can happen (especially that the £400,000 worth symbol did not make Brits proud). We were wrong.
Just a few days ago the committee has chosen Olympics anthem, which will be "Heroes" by David Bowie. The original track was recorded in 1977, but the Olympic theme will actually be a cover of the song by Irish band The Script.
It is not the first time that "Heroes" has become an Olympic anthem. In 2000 the song was performed by Icehouse for the Sydney games.
Original track from 1977 by D.Bovie
