It's no secret anymore that women are clearly outnumbering men in numerous colleges and universities throughout the nation. Experts are baffled by this phenomenon and are still introducing new theories as to why this is so, and why the number of men choosing to attend college is statistically declining every year.
However, a new concern has risen among experts regarding the distinct gender gap in many colleges. According to this article, sociologists are becoming concerned that as a result of women outnumbering men, women will have a much more difficult time finding a compatible partner for marriage. Many studies have shown that when considering a partner for marriage, most women tend to look for men that have educational backgrounds compatible with their own. However, as the distinct difference between the educational backgrounds of men and women begins to increase, it seems more likely to cause a rise in cohabitation as a substitute for marriage. According to the article, this could possibly cause a "major social shift and perhaps a worsening of the war between the sexes."
