Cohen at it Again

Sasha Baron Cohen is up to his old antics again. The actor most recently from "Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan" and the creator of "Da Ali G Show" was able to get his name in pre-election coverage. Cohen was seen a at a Proposition 8 rally in California (for those of you who don't know, Prop. 8 was put up for referendum to reverse the decision to legalize gay marriage in California. At this point it looks like it passed.) Cohen was filming for his new movie in which he plays Bruno, a gay fashion reporter.

It is difficult to laugh at such an issue that so greatly affects people's lives but I think Cohen has found his niche. Showing the absurdity of certain positions comes easily to this comedic actor when he preys on unwitting supporters. There is a telling moment in Borat in which he speaks at a rodeo and says we should bomb Iraq until the ground is seeped in blood and not even a lizard can walk there (at which point he is applauded.)

It will be controversial and it will be tasteless at times but undoubtedly it will be priceless and true so be sure to see his new film when it comes out in May of 2009.
