Last night the 42nd CMA awards took place on ABC. It was hosted by Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley. Now I love awards shows, but I have to admit, I dvr most of my shows and I pretty much sped through everything except the performances. I did notice some horrible costume changes by Carrie Underwood, but her performance was amazing and touching.
Underwood performed her "Just a Dream" song which speaks of a young woman losing her soon to be husband during wartime. The song was introduced by Leslie Ponder, whose husband was killed in combat in Afghanistan. Watch the video, it will be hard for you not to be touched.
The awards show followed the script of the last couple of years. Winners were Brad Paisley, Kenny Chesney, Carrie Underwood, and George Straight. George Straight also set the record for the most CMA awards at 22.
Hopefully the CMA's will stick with the real country artists and take away the spotlight from performers like Jewel and Jessica Simpson. Nowadays everyone wants to say they've got a little bit of country in them.
