In My most recent blog I announced the 9/11 Truth Movement's plans to congregate at Ground Zero, my husband included, on Thursday of next week. Er, that's September 11, 2008...just to be clear. Prior to that announcement, the Democratic National Convention (dubbed by Faux News, oops...I mean Fox News, The Spectacle) and since then the Republic National Convention (this one isn't dubbed anything, I wonder why? Oh, that's right! Faux News is a biased media organization..you know, almost fair and balanced.) have been the site of police state measures. Is this unusual? No, not in post-9/11-paranoid-Patriot-Act-America, where everyone is a terrorist until proven innocent..hey, watch out for those rendition flights!
The new and nasty twist, aside from the tear-gas and "chemical irritants" (a very nice way of saying "biological weapons") is that now the government is targeting journalists. You know those people that actually provide us with some measure of the truth. Specifically, Amy Goodman and her fellow Democracy Now reporters, who identified themselves as Press, were brutalized and arrested. http://www.democracynow.org/2008/9/2/amy_goodman_two_democracy_now_producers
It is a sad day for our country when the easily identifiable Press are punished for doing their job. Their, and in turn our, Constitutional rights were infringed upon so that the Circus Act, also known as the Presidential Race, could go on without any hiccups. Thousands of people were arrested and detained for exercising their right to protest and peaceably assemble. According to the powers that be, peaceful demonstrators were "inciting riot." http://www.infowars.com/?p=4312
Here is the kicker though, HR 1955 a resolution passed in the House and soon to be passed by the Senate is a fairly unpublicized document, much like the Patriot Act was, that allows the government to stop "Home Grown Terrorist, and for other purposes" from attaining social, political, religious change through "force or coercion", in addition the measures taken are not to infringe upon our constitutional rights.
Why wouldn't we want political change? Our country politics is highly flawed, or layman's terms...it sucks! It doesn't work! It is purely advantageous to the wealthy, and only the wealthy. Who is fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan? Not the wealthy. Who is benefitting? The wealthy.)
Why wouldn't we want social change? Change is good. The sixties brought about change. Things that stagnate, eventually rot...you know...like our government. If change is illegal then I guess Barak Obama is breaking the law? No, no, no...he is wealthy. C'mon, now, pay attention.
Constitutional Rights? Like the right to peaceably assemble? Free speech? To not be illegally searched and seized? Stop, say hello to the NSA, because they have some how managed to bypass that piece of paper known as the constitution and listen to all of your phone calls, read all of your emails, pre-emptively break down your door and arrest your hippie but if you even consider attending a rally, which apparently is the same as a riot.
You see at this point you have the right to work yourself into an early grave, you have the right to shop until your in debt up to your eyeballs and see no way out, you have the right to pretend the government is looking out for your best interests. Like...fluoride in the water. Yeah, that's good. Fluoride is rat poison. In fact it is so deadly that it is banned in over thirty two countries. Or, mercury in vaccinations, which are required by law. http://www.infowars.com/?p=3731. http://www.holisticmed.com/fluoride/. The cases of Autism have skyrocketed in the last eight years. Notice I said, "Eight."
Am I off topic? No. Here is the point: We the People are afraid of the government. We live in fear of them taking our money (IRS) and we are grateful that they allow us to be free. How many times have you heard someone say, "If you don't like American policies, then leave." The once friendly policeman walking his beat is now dressed in full, black on black, SWAT gear and standing intimidatingly on every corner and storming homes.
Look, don't get me wrong. I love my country. I served in the United States Marine Corps for nine years to protect our freedoms. Yours and mine. Now, I witness as our freedoms are rapidly eroded. We have left the realm of Democracy and entered in a world of fear and fascism. Fact is, according the government, and no this isn't written anywhere specific, you don't have the right to know the truth. You don't have the right to protest when your are pissed off. In fact you don't have many rights at all. The one's you have, you had better hold onto with dear life. There is war being waged on the Constitution, journalists like Amy Goodman are on the front line. Much like with the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, We the People continue to sit, oblivious, on our couches and text till our fingers fall off. We rap all our worries around what new pop diva is pregnant, no not Palin's daughter, and what is the very next thing we can purchase.
Those traveling down to Ground Zero on 9/11 will undoubtedly face the same treatment as those individuals who traveled to the DNC and RNC, the circus act. We know that they will, because even though they will assemble peacefully, as is their right under the Constitution, our Democracy is broken.
"When the people fear their government, it is tyranny. When the government fear their people, it is liberty." - Thomas Jefferson.
