The Entourage actor Jeremy Piven is pulling out of the Broadway play “Speed-the-Plow” due to mercury poisoning. The playwright, David Mamet seemed disdainful towards Piven because of the change in actors. Mamet was quoted as saying, “So my understanding is that he is leaving show business to pursue a career as a thermometer." It’s unknown how serious the poisoning is, but William H. Macy and Norbert Leo Butz will be taking over the position for Piven.
It’s really kind of not fair to blame Piven for backing out of his contractual agreement to be in the play, it’s not really his fault. I’m sure if he was given the choice he wouldn’t have gotten mercury poisoning and he would rather take on the role that he had in the play. You don’t hear a lot of cases of mercury poisoning these days though so I have to wonder how it happened. I’m sure that it’ll turn out fine for him though and he’ll be back on his feet and back in his role for Entourage in no time.
